On Wednesday, December 17^th the New York Road Runners and The Armory partnered to kick off the first indoor track and field meet of this season’s NYRR Youth Running Series – the Armory Middle School Invitational.

Hundreds of middle schoolers entered the New Balance Track and Field Center at the Armory to participate, many of whom competing in track and field for the first time.

One of the first events of the night was the boys 55m, which was won by Michael Miller of the Bronx Tigers Track Club in a speedy time of 7.23.

“This meet was a lot of fun to run,” said Michael, who also dipped under 60 seconds to win the boys 400m. “My goal is to always run successfully at The Armory.”

Aoife Kenny and Aaliyah Perez had a great time winning first and second place medals in the girls 800m. In their first time ever running the event, Aoife and Aaliyah were able to record impressive marks of 2:38.13 and 2:40.36, respectively.

“Tonight was so much fun,” said Perez after the race. “I can’t wait to run again and see if I can get faster.”

The NYRR Youth Running Series is designed to help middle school aged children have active, fun and also includes cross country and road running meets during the fall and spring.

Each of the series’ upcoming four indoor track and field meets will take place at the New Balance Track and Field Center at The Armory. The next event in the series will be the Armory Youth Holiday Classic Presented By NYRR, taking place on Saturday, December 27^th.
