New Balance Track & Field Center at The Armory, Dec 14th – The New York Section 1 Kick Off 2 meet didn’t disappoint this Sunday when thousands turned out to fill the stands and improve their season marks at the premier indoor track & field center.

The talented Dominique Beltrez of Lakeland HS – who finished second at the 2013 Junior Olympics long jump and sixth at last season’s New Balance Outdoor Nationals in the 100m hurdles – took fifth in the 55m hurdles in 8.37.

In her first attempt at the event, North Rockland HS’s Brooke Nohilly (above) won the girls 600m in 1:40.39. “I love The Armory,” said Nohilly. “It’s so much fun being able to run in The Armory with everyone cheering you on. “

Nohilly’s teammate, Anika Dwyer recorded a victory as well, jumping 34-4.25 in the girls triple jump.

Chelsea Ogindo of Peekskill HS is a distance runner on the rise. She handedly won the 1000m over a field of 100 plus girls, running 3:00.25.

Connor Stack of Arlington HS and Luke Holtzman of New Rochelle HS battled to the finish line in the boys 3200m. The enthusiastic Armory crowd cheered the runners on, but it was Stack who was able to edge out the win in 10:03.56, holding off Holtzman who ran 10:03.81

Another athlete to keep on your radar is the talented Tarique Wilson of North Rockland HS. He finished within the top 10 at last season’s NYSPHSAA Indoor State Championship 55m hurlde race, and took first place in that event today, running 7.95.  

“It was great to be racing at The Armory again,” said Matt Lehman of Mamaroneck HS (above). “There’s nothing quite like that first 300m on the banked track.”
