New Balance Track & Field Center at The Armory, December 27th – Athletes of all ages entered the world’s premier indoor track and field facility to compete in the Armory Open Sprint Night Presented By NYRR.

Wanetta Kirby showed up ready for the 60m hurdles, which was the first event of the night. The DC International athlete was able to break away from the field early and finish in 8.56. Her teammate, Casaundra Boudin took second in 8.60.

The mens 60m hurdles followed shortly after and featured Vinny Biunno of Franklin Pierce University, who was able to narrowly out hurdle Esteban Garcia of CPTC New Balance. The two dipped at the line to finish in 8.42 and 8.47, respectively.

There was a very close finish between John Lundy of DC International and ASA College’s Chavez Ageday in the mens 60m. Both fought hard to the line, but it was Lundy who was able to pull off the narrow victory in 6.867 to Ageday’s 6.869. Lundy later jumped in the men’s 200m to take first in a time of 21.51.

Heriberto Medina came out to run the mens 400m and 200m. The Urban Athletics representative has been running at The Armory since 1980 and plans on breaking 2:30.00 in the 800m soon. "This track is where it's at," said Medina. "I enjoy spending time here and running against the young competition. I also love the officials!"

Asha Ruth of DC International impressed the crowd, coolly crossing the 400m finish line to an easy 55.96 victory.

Kendra Bush had a great night in the womens shot put, winning with a mark of 11.46m. She was also able to take third in the womens weight throw with a toss of 12.20m.

The Apex Vaultin crew made an appearance at the meet and took many of the top spots in the womens and mens pole vault. Emily Shipley was able to clear 12-01.00 in the event. Her teammates Stephanie Rozalski and Danielle Wannmuller took second and third, clearing 11-00.00 and 10-06.00, respectively.

Calvin Hartman grabbed some air in the mens pole vault. The Apex Vaultin representative cleared 14-06.00 for the win. Unattached athletes Joe Oliveri, Dylan Downing, Elvis Cole and Benoit Simonet cleared 14-06.00 as well, but fell to Hartman on attempts.
